Built from the Ground Up
Jenga AfriHub was born in 2022 — not in a boardroom, but in a church hall in rural Teso North, where girls gathered during the COVID-19 pandemic with nowhere to go and no one stepping in. So we built something ourselves.
Who We Are
Jenga AfriHub is a young women-led grassroots hub founded in 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Teso North Sub-County, Busia County, Western Kenya. When schools closed and girls gathered at a local church with nowhere to go and no access to digital tools or information, our founder saw an opportunity — not to wait for help from outside, but to build something from within.
The name says it all. Jenga is the Swahili word for "to build" — an act that is deliberate, collaborative, and lasting. AfriHub speaks to something bigger: a connected hub of young people shaping their own futures, grounded in the reality of Teso North but linked to a wider movement of community-led change across Africa. Together, the name is both a description and a promise.
Today, Jenga AfriHub operates across five wards — Ang'urai North, Ang'urai South, Ang'urai East, Malaba Central, and Malaba North — delivering programmes in adolescent engagement, digital safety, SRHR, and youth dialogue. We have reached over 1,000 young people through partnerships with the European Union, World Vision Kenya, SFN Africa, county government, and local civil society. Every programme is designed, delivered, and evaluated by and with the community it serves.

The Safe Clicks Digital Safety Campaign launches in partnership with TrustLab, funded by the European Union. Community barazas, TVET masterclasses, and a network of trained Digital Champions begin equipping youth across Teso North.

Sauti Zetu — an EU-funded SRHR awareness programme — kicks off with 10 school clubs supporting adolescents aged 10–16. Disability-inclusive and creative, the programme amplifies young voices through art, drama, poetry, and sport.

Marian founded Jenga AfriHub in 2022 after witnessing girls in her community lose access to learning and support during the COVID-19 pandemic. She leads the organisation's vision, partnerships, and community-rooted programmes across Teso North.
