About the Campaign

The Back to School Campaign is a joint initiative between Jenga AfriHub and SFN Africa, supported by World Vision Kenya. Held in April 2026, the campaign delivered integrated health services — including HIV and cancer screening, SRHR and SGBV awareness, and structured referral pathways — directly into schools across Teso North.

703 adolescents were reached across participating schools. By bringing services directly to school compounds, the campaign removed barriers of transport, cost, and stigma that often prevent young people from accessing health care.

The campaign brought together six-plus partners — including the County Government of Busia (Ministry of Health), MildMay Kenya, YPlus Kenya, and The Urban Loft — in a fully integrated delivery model coordinated by Jenga AfriHub.

Campaign Components

Six integrated services delivered in a single campaign day — ensuring every adolescent who participates leaves with information, screening results, and a clear path to follow-up care.

HIV & Cancer Screening

On-site voluntary HIV testing and cervical cancer screening delivered in partnership with MildMay Kenya and YPlus Kenya. Adolescents receive results, counselling, and referrals on the same day.

SRHR & SGBV Awareness

Age-appropriate sessions on sexual and reproductive health rights and sexual and gender-based violence prevention. Delivered by trained facilitators using accessible, community-validated content.

Referral Systems

Adolescents who require follow-up care are connected to functional referral pathways — including county health facilities, MildMay Kenya, and The Urban Loft — ensuring no one falls through the gaps.

County Government Coordination

The campaign is delivered in coordination with the County Government of Busia's Ministry of Health and the Youth Affairs department, embedding the work within formal health systems.

Multi-Partner Mobilisation

Six-plus partners are brought together — including World Vision Kenya, SFN Africa, MildMay Kenya, YPlus Kenya, The Urban Loft, and county government — in a model of genuine integrated delivery.

School-Based Delivery

All services are delivered within school compounds, removing barriers to access and meeting adolescents in a trusted environment. School administrations are engaged as key partners throughout.

Youth Voices

"I had never been tested before. The campaign came to our school and made it easy — no judgement, clear information, and I knew my results the same day. That takes away a lot of fear."

Participant, 16, Teso North

"The SGBV session helped me understand what is happening to some of my friends. I now know how to support them and where to send them for help."
